Halloween Safety Tips & Tricks

Happy Halloween!

The costumes are out and the candy is ready, but are you set to have a safe Halloween?

Health Canada has some great food safety tips– especially for people with food allergies and sensitivities.

The RCMP covers more safety tips such as:

  • Making yourself more visible with reflective strips on costumes or by carrying a flashlight or glow stick.
  • Talking to your kids about how they can be “street smart”.
  • Planning a safe route.
  • Learning about the dangers of fireworks.
  • That vandalism is not funny, it is illegal and has consequences.

Find more on the RCMP website.

Have a spooktacular Halloween and try not to eat too much candy!

Dancing & Laughing at the Family Fall Gathering

This week’s guest blogger is SD62’s Public Relations Coordinator, Lindsay Vogan.

What a fantastic evening yesterday at the Family Fall Gathering at Saseenos Elementary! Thank you to all the families and children for attending and celebrating student success in SD62.

Aside from the delicious harvest stew dinner, the Tzinquaw Dancers stole the show with their acrobatic-like dancing, powerful signing and spectacular costumes.

Big thanks to the T’Sou-ke Nation for hosting and involving everyone in a really fun workshop. And the prizes….51 people took home incredible gifts- it was like a Holiday party! The grads also raised a lot of money thanks to all the people who donated in the silent auction. It wasn’t difficult to want to bid more than $100 on the artwork that was up for grabs.

The true spirit of the community shone through when students and families pledged to help make the world a better place by reducing and conserving electricity in their communities.

Official Launch of Nature Kindergarten- Updated!

At nearly one month into the school year, students and guests gathered at Sangster Elementary on Wednesday to celebrate the official launch of the province’s first Nature Kindergarten program.

The entire school celebrated by singing two very inspirational environmental songs to guests, parents and media. It was really nice to see how one small Kindergarten program can unite the entire school and the community. Thank you Sangster Elementary for hosting such a fantastic event!

Here is the media coverage from that special day: (Click the highlights for direct links to the articles)

See the article that made the front page of Sunday’s Times Colonist! Also read a letter sent in from the public about Nature K.

Even the Metro News picked up this great story!
