LEA Agreement with Pacheedaht First Nation

Tuesday night, I traveled the scenic road to Pacheedaht First Nation to sign the Local Education Agreement (LEA) between Pacheedaht and our school district. Chief Marvin McClurg welcomed me, and my amazing trustees to his community with plenty of food and great conversation. Local Education Agreements between First Nations and provincial school boards have been a part of educating youth for many First Nations who purchase services for their students for several years. LEA’s allow First Nations to have a stronger voice in their children’s education. The signing of the LEA agreement marked a huge step, which happens only once every five years, to work together to provide the best possible education to Pacheedaht Nation students. I am proud to continue to build a relationship with the community, to make sure that all students reach their highest potential in School District 62.

Busy Day @ Belmont: Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock & Spin-A-Thon

An exciting day at Belmont Secondary as Tour de Rock rolled passed the school this afternoon. Students eagerly waited outside to cheer on these brave athletes – setting a great example of community spirit. The Spin-A-Thon raised over $3,000 dollars for Cops for Cancer, and Principal Ray Miller even shaved his head in support of reaching their fundraising goals. Check out some of the photos from earlier today!

Fruit Tree Project

The Lifecycles Project Society is looking for donations for their Fruit Tree Project. This great program is looking for people to donate fruit right from their own back yard! You can also volunteer to pick the fruit with their incredible team of fruit pickers. Last year they collected enough fruit to feed 19,000 people!
