Results are in: Nature K’s first year is a huge success!

It’s hard to believe that we have only been running Nature Kindergarten for one year. The program not only fits so well with Victoria and Island life, it seems also to be a perfect match for SD62. The woods of Royal Roads University with their critters and huge trees have more than proven to be a fantastic morning classroom for the students.

With heightened awareness of the environment and Eco system, confidence and fitness, the first class of Nature K graduates is off to a great start!

Left – right: Dr. Enid Elliot; Nature K Teacher, Lisa Lockerbie; Colwood Principal, Frances Krusekopf; Sangster Principal, Maureen Lauren.

Read the the highlights of what some of the parents had to say about their child’s experience in this pilot project. Not only has Nature K proven to be a huge asset to learning in SD62, it is also a groundbreaking program in Canada and North America for that matter.

Huge congratulations to founders of Nature K in SD62, Frances Krusekopf and Dr. Enid Elliot.

What we can learn from kids

It’s hard to believe Adora Svitak is only 12! She’s a great presenter and tells us adults why we should go back to how we used to think as a child. “The world needs “childish” thinking: bold ideas, wild creativity and especially optimism.”- Adora

Did I mention she’s a prodigy and has already written two books? Check out Flying Fingers, and co-authored with her sister, Dancing Fingers.

Great free reads for the weekend

[pullquote align=”left|center|right” textalign=”left|center|right” width=”30%”]StarWalk Kids Media has hundreds of ebooks online and they are free to access for the month of July![/pullquote]

One of the best things parents can do over the summer holidays is infusing learning with fun! And as always, reading books is both easy and effective.

So why keep your child learning over the summer? To keep their brain active, not just their body.

By keeping both active and fresh, kids can walk into the classroom in September at an advantage and ready to learn new content.

So avoid the mental “summer slide” and get reading!
